Accommodation

Finding accommodation can be stressful. When you are studying, it is important to have a home base where you can relax and feel safe. You may be unsure about where to start, what the rental process is and your rights.

What are my accommodation options?

You can stay in a homestay with a family, a student apartment or in a private rental property on your own, or with housemates.

How to avoid rental scams?

  • Watch out for false rental advertisements on the internet. Ensure that you are dealing with genuine property managers.
  • Be wary of offers that seem too good to be true.
  • Personally inspect the interior of the property.
  • Do not pay any money until you have viewed the property, and met the landlord. If making a cash payment, insist on a receipt.
  • Use recommended residential tenancy forms in English

To report scammers, complete the online form on ACCC Scamwatch website.
